Overview
My strength is starting programs, building community, and bringing stakeholders together to unite efforts toward a common cause. When I work with a new community, I focus on building one-on-one relationships, listening to individuals’ stories, and recognizing the assets that all individuals and communities possess.
I live in Providence, Rhode Island. I concentrated in Urban Studies at Brown University and received a Master’s in Education from Antioch University.
Past Work Accomplishments
I founded and coordinated the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program at Central Falls High School. In addition to helping hundreds of students to receive academic credit for project-based learning, I supported the creation of numerous new programs, including a community garden, a School Emergency Response Team, a Restorative Crossfit program, a recording studio and after-school music program, a Newcomers summer intensive, a Mayor’s Youth Council, and a Robotics Team. http://expandedlearning.tumblr.com/
I founded and edited Street Sights, a newspaper about homelessness in Rhode Island, and managed a volunteer staff of 20 to produce the 16-page paper and distribute 3,000 copies throughout Rhode Island. I served as a Constituent Organizer at the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless and co-organized 300-person rallies at the State House and co-coordinated several press conferences and actions calling attention to the needs of Rhode Islanders facing homelessness.
